There is an internal conflict occurring- it is the fire of the varying possibilities that each of the wands offer that is currently keeping him in this holding pattern. The high priestess is a gentle call to pause, get quiet, and tap into his deep knowing. Receive the information. There is risk in jumping into a new industry at 54, and here the 9 of cups is asking him to wish bigger for himself. What does he want and wish for in these next steps- beyond the wand that, before now, had been planted firmly in the ground representing stability and staying rooted in what has been. This wand has been uprooted, and for a reason. I would encourage him to feel into and visualize himself in this next part of his journey- not from a fear place, but from an intuitive , inspired place of what do you wish for yourself and what does that look like? Those 5 wands will calm down and start working together once his vision is clarified, and fear can settle.
Yes, too much "noise", he needs to take a deep breath and "wish bigger for himself" as you said. There's a new possible direction if he finds the next step.
The cards seem to say: “Open your eyes, this is ideal: you’re where you need to be. Find what you love, make a wish, and fight for it.”
To me, he needs to go where there’s competition, where there’s work. I don’t see him defending what he already has done, the field he was in — that would be 7 of Wands or 9 of Wands for instance. The 9 of Cups also indicates — to me, at least — that he has a lot to offer. And that he is pleased with the situation on an unconscious level.
Well, I would like to ask him a lot of questions to clarify!
And may I say that I didn’t know the Trippin’ Waite Tarot and that it looks amazing?
First, I wouldn't try to advise someone on such a life-changing topic with only 3 cards. I would pull 3 for 2 paths: if you stay, and if you go. That said. If I had only these three, I would have encouraged him to "remember" deep down the dream he may have given up. If he is honest and attaches excitement to his unrequited dream, he can pursue it even though there will be competition that can serve to help elevate his skills and be his best. If he doesn't fear competition, he can rise to the challenge if he wishes.
He has more agency in this situation than he may realize and this seeming setback may be just a catalyst for something better and therefor indications seem to lead to making a change.
There are other ideas and dreams that have been dormant and that he can now address and consider seriously.
It may be that there is a far more radical path than just an adjacent change of industry or it could also be that there is an opportunity to pursue some non work goals, some hobbies or artistic practices that were previously not in consideration.
These potential changes will not seem without risk and may not always look safe and smooth but the new path ahead is the right one and being in alignment will unfold successfully and peacefully with benefits previously unexpected.
If he has any concerns about the loss of the job being a mistake or karmic punishment or something along those lines, the Priestess card seems to be a call for surrender, faith, and relief. There is something watching over the situation from other levels.
The 9 of cups suggests to avoid trying to find perfect satisfaction in the answer, and also to look at all the gifts and skills he already has. There is a lot of potential (the genie) to be found there, a lot of power to make things happen.
The 5 of staves/wands/whatever, just looking at the image alone, implies both a fight AND a kind of joyful camaraderie. The two doves seem to bely the image of battle, it reads to me like friendly competition.
These would be key attitudes for him to carry within himself as he looks for his new place, and threads/touchstones/talismans/compasses to help him suss out good paths forward from unnecessarily complicated paths forward.
There is not a lot of clues about Joe's situation other than the lost job and it is in manufacturing so we don't know his current skills, education or financial position. Was he a higher level manager or a just a line worker for instance. Did he get a redundancy payout. His age at 54 to me presents a tricky time of life for losing a job and finding a new one and I think, as a man, his temptation might just be to send out his resume in his current field as that is easiest and its safer as he knows that industry. But he could relish this 'opportunity' shown to him of losing the job to retrain and explore life anew. Or, to think about what he really loves to do and does he want the boring old manufacturing job and could he create a new self employed job perhaps??
The High Priestess is telling him to really stop and consider what he himself truly wants to do with his life now. Is it about a new challenge in retraining, taking it easy, or even taking a risk. What does his gut really tell him that's right for him? He has to listen.
The Nine of cups identifies that he has all the success and possible accomplishments he needs already if he really looks and this alone could also enable him to take another, or new path for work and income and maybe even to allow him to take some extra time out to work out what that really looks like and try out options. Does he have a partner to support him ok while he does this perhaps.
But he also has to see that there will be challenges and competition in any choices he makes with the Five of Wands. This could mean rejections and competition. Younger people getting the jobs he goes for. Lack of tech skills perhaps and the need to retrain there and he has to start at the bottom of ladders again. These are not big battles and are not insurmountable but he must be aware that if he stays in the same industry it could be a dead end but even if he takes the time to retrain and gets through any challenges, it may be more personally and ultimately really rewarding.
I'm a newbie but I feel it may be time for a change. The High Priestess looking inward at your magic, to pause and slowdown, the #2 is about choice..perhaps he is weighing his options with intention. 9 of cups - nines to me are about wrapping something up, something coming to an end....9 of cups to me symbolizes dreaming of new opportunities...5 of wands - 5's to me are contraction before expansion....this card to me symbols it may not be easy and if we want to take up the challenge it may be slow going at first.
I'm not fond of either-or questions...doing horary charts as an astrologer, we need to have a yes or no answer for one idea. But looking at this card spread, what comes up for me is the listen to guidance from a higher level which may encourage that the middle path leads to fulfillment and victory in competitions. Does that mean do both? Keep sending out resumes for the current marketing field and explore another field if it calls to you. I'll be interested to see what others say.
Joe should go by intuition and trust his inner voice calling ,let this new field be emotionally satisfying and enjoyable of course at his age this change shall bring in conflict of thoughts but trust that he is on a correct path
To me, the High Priestess is giving me the feeling that he’s burying his intuition. That deep down, he knows what he wants to do next, but he might be scared to take a risk. This is totally understandable, he might have a lot of responsibilities and people counting on him. However, the next card, the nine of cups is saying, here’s that sign you have been waiting for make a wish, it will come true! Warning though, you’re going to have to fight for that wish. The five of wands, you’ll going to have to defend your choice and engage in competition. The five of wands always feels like a game to me though, how can you be competitive and still have fun.
