This is a question for everyone
I’ve read that we humans carry the genetic imprint of early homo sapiens sitting around a fire at night, sharing stories, while keeping a watchful eye out for saber tooth tigers or giant sloths.
I actually shiver when I hear this, so I think it could be true.
But what I want to know - what I started wondering about - is do animals carry that same genetic imprint? Joshua Chamberlain said, upon visiting the Civil War battleground at Gettysburg, that where great events happened, great spirits remain. This was a battle with 50,000 or more casualties, so I’m thinking that a lot of spirits remained. Then, I did a little research and found that between 3000-5000 horses and mules died there too.
So if I took a horse to that battlefield, would it have some kind of genetic memory of all the horses who were there?
Or if a fox hears horses thundering down a trail, does it have a memory of fox hunts? Is a cat’s memory of once being large, fast, and feared encoded into his DNA?
If you have knowledge of this, or even an opinion, please leave a comment. I’m not sure why this topic popped into my brain but now I can’t get it out.

Funny thing that I read this now. My son and I were discussing something similar earlier this morning. We were discussing animals (and other beings) of a specific group, for example dogs, sharing one big soul that incarnates individually in each type of dog and that every dog shares the knowledge, memories, and anything else that the big dog soul has experienced, knows, or remembers. Though I do feel that among domesticated animals that connection may be disrupted or corrupted even in some ways.
I do believe that animals, plants, stones, all beings carry ancestral memories and can/are tuned in to the energy of a place.
I do believe that animals can sense/see/feel other animals, whether from their own species or another. And I believe they feel the residual energetic imprints of animals in locations whether a farm, an old historical setting etc.
I've witnessed my dog who has seemed to see my old cat (I've also seen my old cat out of the corner of my eye, he visits often 💞) also I get a sense that she saw my old dog Mozi especially when she first arrived here after I rescued her. I feel sure that elephants remember and feel their old ancestors or places of previous generations and I think there has been a book written about this kind of phenomenon.
