Witch's Ledger | Looking Back on the Previous Six Months
July 14th
You’re almost a month out from summer solstice now. The light of the day is getting shorter. It’s a gradual thing, a few minutes a day, and most people don’t notice it until August when it suddenly seems like the evenings seem to come quickly. The Navigator noticed on June 22nd. She was already adjusting.
This is your mid-summer audit. The Navigator of the Tides didn’t have patience for charts that didn’t match the water. If the map was wrong, she didn’t argue with the water. She redrew the map.
Three Questions for Your Ledger
Which ancestral relationship has deepened since January? You’ll know this one because it’s moved beyond a one-way practice into something that feels more like a conversation. There’s a greater sense of who this ancestor actually was, how she thought, what she carried. You’re not just maintaining a space for her. You’re in exchange.
If you’re new here, think about what’s deepened since your first month in the Witch’s Ledger or if you keep track of life events, what was going on in January?
Which relationship has gone slack? These are the ones you set up thoughtfully and haven’t returned to. The altar’s still there. The candle gets lit when you remember. But nothing new has moved between you. Write that name down.
Which ancestor have you been navigating around? Most practitioners have at least one. The one who passed over under circumstances that are uncomfortable to look at directly. The one whose story has edges. Write that name down too, even if you go no further with it today. Recognition is a form of charting.
