Love comparing cards from different decks!

Me too! Always amazed at how an artist sees each card.

My interpretation would be the time of year when she can have the most time to “rest” with freedom and go with her gut on this instead of thinking too much about it.

But I overlooked the most obvious- swords are the fastest moving in the minor arcana- so I say 4 hours to 4 days. 4 days is my answer.

I like your interpretation of going when she will have the most time to rest - and to pay attention to her gut feelings.

I just started working with the Wildwood Tarot and these images and meanings are really different from RWS. The Four of Swords is called the Four of Arrows and the image is a man lying face down with four arrows in his body. The meaning is Rest which, based on the image, is quite the understatement. I'm not sure what I will use this deck for yet but it certainly is going to be a wild ride!

I love that deck but have a little trouble with the court cards. However, I do like to use it

I'm interested to know what is difficult with the courts. Maybe I'll find out once I really start reading with them.

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

They're all animals, so it throws me a bit.

No matter the deck, 4 of swords pulled in answer to that question tells me that the time is not now for that decision. Pull back, rest on the question & ask again in a moon's cycle.

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

Yes it does. I like other interpretations, though, just for more information.

What interested me is that in every single image someone was sleeping or resting. The opposite of travel. I'd be inclined to say perhaps it's a good time to curl up with a good book...

Pulling from a few decks seems like an interesting way to look at different options. Love this !

Thanks Vicki - and glad you're feeling better!

4s are always about stability, stillness, and waiting (in the Roma reading way.)

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

No, I didn't know that - and I know almost nothing about reading in the Roma way. Thanks for your note.

What a cool way to address the question and so nice to see all of the different interpretations of each deck.

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

Thanks - it's so fascinating to see how artists interpret the tarot.

If you ever want to take a peek, I’m another artist making a tarot deck 😅 Mine is hand drawn/painted and is centred around Women in Music. I’m still only about 30% through the creation phase but having only started around February this feels like a good start!

I love that you put a white and a black guitar with the High Priestess - so perfect. I can definitely see Joplin as the Knight of wands.

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

I'd love to take a peek. Also love the theme. You know - because of my age - I definitely want to see Janis Joplin!

There may be a court card inspired by her - I love her too and have already been thinking her energy is very Knight of Wands :) The women in my deck are not based physically on specific artists, it's more about a feeling and energy within the musician world. I know what you mean Nancy. I only have a few decks and it has taken me years to learn the RWS card meanings without reading up. So I tend to use it to. E more confident. Albeit I do refer to Biddys guide too sometimes.

But I select one of the few decks I have for the type of question I want to ask. As I don’t have clients etc, you asking these questions is really good for me to learn more. For instance, you read all yours knowing the person was in the US. Whereas I instantly saw the deck with the lady on the bed as Spanish with a Spanish guitar. So a trip to Spain or Mexico came to mind but only after a rest to get ready for the dancing and flamenco shows in the summer months! The bird one I saw as a nature trail or hiking so maybe springtime. The others looked too typical four of swords to me. It is about intuition for sure as you say.

I LOVE your take on Spain or Mexico - and looking back at the card I totally see where you're getting that.

This is part of why I don’t even own a Rider/Waite deck; it’s too “bowed down to”, as far as I am concerned. I really dig letting all the funky decks come to the party. When a reader comes off the wall with a different take like that four of swords, it’s enriching. Speaking the same language six thousand ways is some real depth. Brava!!

Nancy Hendrickson's avatar

thank you. I’ve always been a fan of funky art in Tarot. I think it speaks to our live lives far more than Rider-Waite ever did.
