Intuition: It's Not Just for Psychics
Let me tell you the truth - at least as much as I know it - you don’t need to be a psychic, a mystic, or even particularly “woo” to be intuitive. Intuition isn’t a special gift, it’s a sense, as real as touch or sight. The problem is, we’re taught to ignore it.
Most of our lives, we’re trained to trust only what we can measure or prove. But intuition is quiet. It arrives in dreams, but disappears so fast once we start overthinking.
And that’s where the moon comes in.
The moon is the perfect symbol of our intuitive lives: always there, almost always visible, affecting the tides of our inner world. Like the moon (and Sidewalk Oracles), intuition asks us to pay attention to what our insides are telling us.
As a long-time moon fan, I promise, there really is something magickal about moon phases, our bodies and our intuition.
Practices to Strengthen Your Intuitive Muscle
If you want to reconnect with your inner moon, your knowing, your gut, your wild little inner compass, here are some grounded ways to start:
Moon Journaling
Try tracking your thoughts, moods, or dreams through at least the new and full moons.
New Moon: What am I ready to call in? (Next one is July 24)
Full Moon: What feels full or overgrown? (Next one is July 10)
Over time, patterns emerge.
Journaling at New Moon: Planting Seeds
What am I ready to call in?
Where do I feel curious or excited?
Which small first step can I take in the coming two weeks?
Journaling at Full Moon: Harvest & Release
What feels full, overgrown, or ready to let go?
Identify anything that’s outgrown its container . . . old habits, relationships, mindset loops. What have I accomplished or learned since the last New Moon?
Celebrate wins, no matter how small. What do I need to forgive or release?
Write it down, then tear or burn the paper safely
Bringing It All Together
Look for patterns.
After three to six cycles, look back through your entries. Do certain feelings or situations repeat? That’s your intuition.Make it yours.
Maybe add a mid-cycle check-in at the First or Last Quarter Moon. Maybe pair your journaling with a tarot or oracle draw.Be nice to you.
If you miss a moon phase or can’t write much, that’s okay.
Mindful Tarot or Oracle Card Pulls (Optional)
If you use tarot or an oracle, try pulling one card at night. Don’t try to interpret it “correctly.” Just ask: How does this reflect my emotional landscape today? The goal isn’t prediction, it’s reflection. (Hopefully your day isn’t going like this guy’s.)
Your Inner Moon Is Always Speaking
Even if you think your intuition is broken, or missing, or never there at all, it still exists. It might just be buried under noise or what someone else tells you. Like the moon, it waxes and wanes but it never disappears.
Treat your intuition like a friendship: show up, listen, experiment. Try moon journaling, meditate under the stars, or simply pause before saying yes.
You don’t need to become someone else to be intuitive. You just need to return to yourself. Honestly, just start remembering.
My question - and thanks for leaving your answer in the comments:
What’s one way you could listen to your inner moon this week?
Beautiful, Nancy, thank you! ❤️ In the Litha reading you gave me, you challenged me to more deeply connect my work with the moon cycles and it's been such an eye-opening process. The Moon has long been part of my spiritual and ritual life, but for some reason I had not connected it to my work/writing/teaching schedule and flow. The fact that I hadn't now speaks volumes to me about misalignment, etc. Thank you, again, for all of this goodness. 🌜💖
Pausing under the stars each night to say hello and give thanks.
