The daily draw is a simple way to integrate tarot
into your everyday life. By focusing on a single card, you create a moment of energetic connection with yourself, the energies surrounding you, and (if you choose) your ancestors. With just a few minutes each day, this practice can help you develop intuition, reflect on the events of each day, and set meaningful intentions.

Step 1: Create a Ritual
Designate a specific time for your daily draw—morning for setting the tone of the day, or evening for reflection. Prepare your space with a quiet atmosphere. For me that means lighting one of my candles and playing Pandora’s piano music. For you it may mean lighting several candles and holding a special crystal or talisman. Next, take a deep breath and center yourself.
Step 2: Draw a Card
Shuffle your tarot or oracle deck with a clear, open mind. As you do, silently or aloud, ask a guiding question such as:
“What energy will support me today?”
“What lesson should I carry forward?”
“What do I need to release?”
Pull a single card and place it in front of you.
Beginning in January, posts in the Tarot Journal section will be for paid subscribers.
Step 3: Reflect on the Card
Spend a few moments observing the imagery, symbols, and colors of the card. What stands out to you? How does it make you feel? Open your journal and write your impressions. Use prompts like:
What message does this card offer me today?
How can I align with the energy of the card?
What action or intention does this card inspire?
For example, if you draw The Lovers, you might reflect on relationships, choices, or aligning with your values.
Step 4: Set an Intention
Based on your reflection, write down an intention or affirmation for the day. For example:
“I nurture balance and harmony in my relationships.”
“I make decisions that align with my highest good.”
Keep this intention in mind as you go about your day, revisiting it whenever you need clarity or grounding.
Step 5: Revisit in the Evening (Optional)
At the end of the day, return to your journal and reflect on how the card’s energy showed up. Did it resonate with your experiences? Were there surprises? This practice deepens your understanding of the cards and your connection to their guidance.
The reality is this: both the act of journaling and the tarot (or oracle) itself is energy in motion. How did your energy merge with your draw? If it didn’t, why?
Ancestral Focus: Using the Daily Draw for Ancestral Work
The daily draw can become a meaningful way to connect with your ancestors. Here’s how to adapt the practice for ancestral work:
1. Shift Your Focus
Before shuffling, set your intention to receive ancestral guidance. Ask questions such as:
“What wisdom do my ancestors offer me today?”
“What energy from my lineage should I embrace?”
2. Interpret Through the Ancestral Lens
When you draw your card, reflect on its meaning in the context of your lineage. Journal prompts might include:
How might this card reflect an ancestral strength or challenge?
What does this card teach me about my family’s history or patterns?
How can I honor this message in my actions today?
For instance, drawing The Emperor could signify leadership or structure within your lineage, prompting you to consider how these themes show up in your life.
3. Invite an Ancestor to Speak

Draw an additional card to represent the ancestor who is present with you today. Reflect on how this ancestor’s energy aligns with the card you drew initially. For example, The Emperor could represent a patriarchal figure offering wisdom about discipline or responsibility.
4. Create an Ancestral Affirmation
Based on your reflection, craft an affirmation that honors both the card and your ancestral connection. For example:
“I carry the wisdom of my ancestors, grounding myself in their strength and guidance.”
5. Offer Gratitude
End your journaling session with a note of gratitude to your ancestors for their presence and guidance.
By the way, wouldn't it be lovely to keep your gratitude notes in a special place, then release them to the Ancestors at the end of each day, week, or month?
Until next time . . .
What a great reminder at how quick and easy it can be to incorporate tarot into one's daily life. And thank you for the option to communicate with ancestors! I did that the other day before making a road trip and my grandfather (King of Wands) jumped out of the deck as I was shuffling. He was a welcomed chaperone. 🥰
