I have a very special Crow friend..."Sweet Crow." We met two and a half years ago, and have developed quite a close relationship. He brought his partner to me on the night of the Full Crow Moon. And this last Spring they brought their offspring! Sweet Crow follows me and my dog, Pepper, on walks. He has chased away a rogue Coyote on more than one occasion.

Crows are wonderful!

A young crow refused to leave the sidewalk. His elders, who were on the roof of a house, were becoming very anxious. We guarded the crow from ensuing cats while one of us procured a hotdog. We threw the hotdog on the attended roof, and sure enough junior crow found it motivation enough to join his brood. We have been fast friends ever since.

Love this! Mine have been blue jays…. And I am trying to follow their message and complete one thing before hopping to the next shiny one.

So many good ideas here! I’m always talking to the crows perched in the tree near my balcony and when I’m on walks (squirrels, too). Interesting how they linger and watch, like they’re listening.

i love this piece, Nancy! portland is full of crows, and i’m in deep relationship with the three who live on my block. i feed them salmon and peanuts. they follow me on walks and perch with me on the porch. i’m somehow closer to them here in the city than i ever was living on land.

I guess crows make me instantly think of death as my mum always said if they landed on someone's roof, then someone there would die and sometimes they did! :( Fun eh?? So when we moved to this forest here in Spain, every time the crows came and circled around in October, I begged them not to land on anyone's house. And I never saw that. BUT...when my Little Bob, who is the spit image of the cat you have here, was taken poorly and was at the vets, and so many of them circled so low over our house and cawed so loud. It was a thundery dark sky too. I convinced myself he would be fine. My beautiful boy sadly died that night. So crows worry me when I see them still. But on the bright side, we have so many other animals and insects, like red squirrel, foxes, rabbits, geckos, lizards, mantis etc and we even had Iberian Ibex came by during Covid as there was no cars! So lots to love still.

Hi Sally, I see so many harbingers of positive and negative. Crows have more than one reason to communicate, just like us. There may be a good lookout, or a feeling of safety on someone's roof. Please try not to be fearful since we all die. Realize the magick, and even the connection to God that crows must have to know this.

Thanks. Yes I don’t dislike crows. I get them. It’s a stuck energy of what they can mean for me. I think they’re beautiful like all birds. And there’s a food chain and they have to eat and hunt which I get too but I don’t like to see them grabbing smaller birds in flight. I don’t fear death for me, as we don’t die anyway. I guess I just don’t like people or animals having to suffer. Meaning through the grief we get from a death too.

Thank you for your kind words.

I am sorry about your kitty. I felt the despair and sorrow of that night in your writing. My feeling is that you would not dislike any animal. I suspect that what we learn as children holds a special place in our minds, and it sounds like your mum felt positively ominous about crows.

As above...

I have set out a “cat water fountain” on a table on my patio for the local birds. I have two birds that frequently stop by. I always stop and watch and say hi but haven’t ever taken a picture. I will remedy that to add to my growing collection for my own Sidewalk Oracle deck. Thanks.

I love this! I was heartbroken that the crows seemed to have been chased off by my neighbour’s cat, and hadn’t been around all summer. But, a couple of weeks ago, one fellow came back. He sits on the same tree branch every morning waiting for peanuts / chicken / cat kibble. He is not as skittish as the usual crows. He’s lovely! 🐦‍⬛❤️

Crows and peanuts! They definitely love them, as do the jays. I’m lucky in that crows are sp numerous where we live….love their raucous chatter.

I love crows but where I live red tail hawks are most common. I always watch for them, and pay attention if they do something a little more than perch, like if I catch one mid swoop, or carrying off prey. I do want to make a place to leave crows offerings in the effort to make friends

Crows are my messengers too. Thank you for your lovely post. 🙏❤️🐦‍⬛

Crow wisdom--yes!

"Maybe that’s the bigger lesson—sometimes we need to stop trying to slip through life unnoticed and instead claim our place, our sound, our presence."

I love the invitation here, Nancy: stay awake. The world is full of such wisdom, if we only keep our eyes open!

I must share with you this picture from 35 years ago— the day I met my spirit animal literally in the middle of the road. I shouted to the driver of our car, “Stop! I must be near that cow!”

First, thank you to everyone for all the really great comments. And secondly, I want to tell you that as I was writing this, two big crows landed on a tree branch right outside my office window and were looking at me! Honestly, you just can’t make this stuff up.
