Anything weird happening at your apartment?
When I wrote Ancestral Grimoire, I referenced a square block in my old neighborhood that I had diagramed and then used a pendulum to track the energies. My work included finding and releasing energy blocks. In addition, it also helped me find spaces of incredible flowing energy that - not surprisingly - were where a neighbor had planted a whole yard of California native plants.
What do you say we try an exercise in working with energy? You’ll need a pendulum and a sketch of the area you’re working with.
Here goes . . .
Sketch the layout of your home, apartment complex, block, work place - it’s your choice. Pick a place where you sense there are some energy blocks or stagnant energy.
Follow my steps below.
The image below is a print-off of my complex, pulled from the web.
Decide what you want your pendulum to tell you. You may be looking for spaces of stagnation within your home or your neighborhood, or like me you’re searching for energy blocks where you live.
Use your drawing or print-out to map the energy blocks or energy boosts.
Ask your pendulum a series of yes-no questions to determine a) where blocks exist; b) does the blocked energy want to work with you; and c) if yes, what you can do to help with the healing. Sometimes, the space really doesn’t want us humans doing anything. Fair enough.
I’m going to tell you my process, just to give you some ideas. Then it’s your turn.
I divided my print-out into quadrants. I then asked my pendulum to swing left to right if there were blocks in the quadrant and to-and-fro (away from me) if the energy was flowing.
There were blocks in my SE and NW quadrants.
I then held the pendulum over each building and asked the pendulum to swing left to right if there was a block in or under that building. If the pendulum didn’t move, the building and land’s energy was okay.
Going Deeper
In the drawing above, I’ve circled the three buildings where I got a blocked energy
I then asked the pendulum whether the blocked energy was in the building or in the land under the building. In the very first building (furthest SE) the block was in the building. In the other two the block was in the land.
Asking the pendulum yes-no, the blocked energy in the building did NOT want me to work with it. The blocked energy in the two land sites gave me a clear YES.
This is where our approaches may differ.
I’ll write my steps, but encourage you to use your own. My goal was to send healing to energy blocks so they would be released. Your goal may be different.
I first worked with the land under the small building on the SE quadrant. I drew a card from my Ancestral Magick deck, asking for the type of block. You can use any deck you want, or you may just want to ask yes-no questions using your pendulum. Remember, this work is about tapping into your intuition. The Green Witch card told me that the block was within underground tree roots (I got the tree roots solely from my intuition). Use any deck of your choice.
Then I drew three tarot cards asking for right action. These were the cards I drew. And again, use whichever deck you’d like.
I felt I needed to work on releasing the land energy block over an eight day period (8 Pentacles). The work should be creative/inventive (Empress) and I should call in the ancestors to help me (6 Cups).
From this, I devised a healing meditation, seeing those roots untangle until they could go deeper into the earth and reach water. Again, this interpretation of what to do is based on the cards and my intuition. I now have my assignment.
If you’re wondering about the second land block - the one in the NW quadrant, the cards I drew will require far more thought on my part. I’d love to hear your take if you’re so inclined.
Because I drew three Major Arcana for right action as well as the Spells card, I knew that working on this blocked energy was going to take more than a visualization. As soon as I finish my eight days on Land #1, I’ll move on to this more challenging energy.
Your thoughts?

I really appreciate your clear, concrete examples of how to do these practices. Do you have any suggestions about pendulums?
I love the idea of performing energy clearing that includes oracle and Tarot cards in this way! I’m going to have to give it a try.
As for the second land block, the Chariot tells me this is a place that played as a major hub for growth at one point, but has evolved into something else now. Kind of like a womb that is done birthing, perhaps an empty nest situation? The Tower suggests that perhaps this situation evolved quite suddenly, and because of that suddenness, there are many remnants and residuals of that energy left over that don’t wish to be released just yet. I immediately thought of a home that is renovated without respect to the local energies and beings in its surroundings. However, the Sun shows me that these energies/beings DO wish to be released and perhaps transmuted to more positive manifestations. Overall, there’s a tender sense of nostalgia of what this place once was, and energies that wish to remain there, but sudden changes that now prompt it to move on!
