The third house describes our siblings, friends from childhood (or elementary and high school), the local neighborhood, self-expression (writing), teaching, learning and travel. This house can also sometimes reflect aunts, uncles and cousins.

The third house in our modern world is where websites, social media platforms and selling, marketing and merchandizing on these platforms, lands. When it comes to learning, it’s skills based education here, as well as elementary and high school levels of learning.

This is also the House of the Goddess (in Hellenistic astrology) and you will find oracles, diviners and seers active here. The moon placed in this house is in the place of her JOY.

In Vedic astrology this is an UPACHAYA house (along with 6, 10 and 11), which translates as improvement. The vibe is competitive, striving, drive, ambition and desire to succeed, and hard work that pays off over time.

It is also a KAMA house (along with houses 7 and 10), related to the AIR element. Air is about ideas, the intellect, the mind and relationships to self, other and groups.

Journaling Prompts - You and the Third House

• What stories or wisdom from my ancestors need to be shared? How can I better listen to their guidance?

• Describe how you naturally communicate with others.

• Think about your early learning experiences.

• Reflect on your relationship with siblings, neighbors, or close friends.

• What topics or ideas do you find yourself constantly drawn to?

• How do you handle short trips, routines, and everyday interactions?

• How do I express myself in everyday conversations? Do I feel understood by others, or do I often hold back what I truly want to say?

  Mini-Ritual - The Letter

Materials Needed

• A notebook or journal for notes about your letter

• A sheet of paper or a page from your notebook

• A favorite pen (mine is a fountain pen)

• A candle

• A grounding crystal (optional, such as pyrite, citrine, or smoky quartz)

Write a letter to an ancestor, then read it aloud - even if you never knew this ancestor. In fact, write it to an ancestor asking for help on a specific issue that relates to the third house. After reading, burn the letter safely, imagining it traveling to them in the spirit realm. Sit quietly and listen for their response.
