As you know, the Summer Solstice
marks the longest day of the year - a perfect time to bring things into focus and get clear about next steps. Combined with the Sun card's energy of clarity, this simple practice will help you identify where you might need more light in your life and how to move forward with confidence.
This is the season of Litha, also celebrated at Solstice - this year June 20.
Litha honors the sun at its peak power and the fullness of life. Traditionally, it’s a time of abundance, fertility, and fire magic—bonfires were lit to honor the sun and protect the harvest to come.
Spiritually, Litha invites reflection on what’s thriving in your life and what you want to sustain through the waning half of the year. It’s the time to celebrate growth, light, and the turning of the wheel.
Get Your Sun Card (or make one)
You’ll need:
Your tarot or oracle deck
Journal and pen
Somewhere to sit, preferably in a beam of sunlight
The Single Card Draw
Get comfortable.
Breathe deeply, until you feel centered, then grounded.
Find the Sun card in your deck and place it in front of you. If you’re using an oracle instead of tarot, find a card that feels like the joyfulness of the Sun.
Does the card evoke any emotions?
In your journal, answer these three questions without drawing a card:
What area of my life could benefit from more clarity right now?
Where am I holding back my own light or energy?
What's one practical step I can take to bring more confidence or joy into my days?
Based on your answers, write down one simple intention for the coming season.
Shuffle your deck while focusing on your intention, and draw one card as guidance for manifesting this intention over the summer months.
Journal the card you drew and any thoughts you have about the guidance. Do you have an actionable answer? If not, draw a clarifier.
Bonus if You Have the Litha Deck
If you own a copy of Seasons of the Witch - Litha, pull a card to accompany your Sun card. I was surprised/not surprised that I drew Sun magick. It’s a clear indication not to ‘small’ myself in my work or in my world.
If you draw from the Litha deck, ask: Does this card confirm/affirm what I wrote in my journal? Does it support my practical step to bringing more of what I want?
Thank you for leaving a comment - let me know the part of your life the sun is shining on today. I look forward to reading and commenting.
