My friend, Mandy, just offered a
free Focus on You workbook over on her Substack. Although it’s based on using tarot cards in self-care spreads, you can easily use any oracle deck.
Mandy, who has a book and deck coming to Kickstarter in August, is a long-time fiction author who has turned to tarot as a writing tool. Her deck will be published by La Panthere Studio, the same company I worked with to create my Ancestral Magick Kit.
If self-care, tarot, oracles, or simply exploring something new appeals to you, pop over to her Substack and download the workbook. I downloaded mine yesterday, and appreciate the thoughtful/authentic approach to self-care.
By the way, I need a little self-care as I managed to pick up a cold on my last night in Canada, and am just now feeling a tiny bit better.
Gifts of the Magi was the first spread
I tried. It's based on the Magician card with other cards drawn to show how to nurture, heart, body, mind, and spirit.
I chose to use the Blooming Cat Tarot (remind me one day to tell you why deck choice is so important). My cards for nourishing/nurturing myself were:
Heart - Ace of Wands
Body - Queen of Cups
Mind - Page of Pentacles
Spirit - Hierophant
Such an interesting draw. I will leave it to you to interpret, but just let me say that my body definitely needs some Queen of Cups caretaking.
I then did a three-card spread named Balancing Act. As you may know, I love three card spreads and this one is a keeper. After placing Temperance in the center, I drew one card (left) for what I’m inviting into my life, and one card (right) for what I’m releasing.
If you don’t know tarot, Google 10 of Swords and you’ll see why I’m happy to have it in the ‘release’ position. And that Queen. Well, what can I say except she is the one who will cook your favorite food, wrap you up in a cozy quilt, and make sure your body is taken care of. Perfect.
Next week I think I’m going to revisit Witchcraft
as I found a fascinating article on it, have listened to the WWII presentation, and just learned of more historical witchy-stuff. See you then.
