The Inner Compass Exercise
Our lives are shaped by countless experiences. And as grounded as you can be, sometimes - due to circumstance - you can feel unmoored, unsure of your direction. That’s when to look at your Inner Compass.
The concept of an inner compass is simple: it represents your core values, instincts, and truths that guide your choices and how you respond to life's challenges. This exercise invites you to explore the state of your compass and recalibrate it if necessary.
Step 1: Get Quiet
Find a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted. You can light a candle if you want, or play soft music. Those things are really your choices. I’d suggest a few deep breaths, just to help center yourself. Have your tarot or oracle deck, journal, and a pen ready.
Step 2: Reflect on Your Current State
Before pulling any cards, take a moment think about whether there are parts of your life that feel "off-course”. Are there decisions you’ve been avoiding? Relationships that feel out of alignment? Habits that no longer serve you?
Step 3: Pull the Cards
Shuffle your tarot deck with the intention of seeking guidance. Use the Inner Compass Spread (below) for insight into your current state, what’s influencing you, and how to realign.
Step 4: Journal Your Responses
As you reveal each card, write your impressions. Describe the imagery, colors, and feelings the card evokes. Then consider these prompts for deeper reflection:
What part of my life does this card mirror?
Does this card suggest a new perspective?
What actions or shifts does it inspire?
Step 5: Analyze
Once you’ve written about the cards, see if you can identify patterns. You may be surprised.
Inner Compass Spread
This 5-card spread is designed to help you understand your current direction, what’s influencing you, and how to align with your true north. Once you’ve done the spread, please do the mini-ritual next.
